A cube, a chair, and a leading lady are all that Sandra needs to deliver a brilliant performance at TheaterWorks. Follow Sandra as she investigates her friend’s disappearance. This one-woman play will captivate you from start to finish with its true crime-style plot. Felicia Curry's ability to morph into an entire cast of characters elevates the story creatively and strategically. Written by David Cale and directed by Jared Mezzocchi, Sandra is a mature-themed rollercoaster of a story for anyone ready to hold on to the ride.

The story of Sandra follows the titular character of the same name as her life is flipped upside down. Before her best friend disappears on his trip to Mexico, Sandra lives her average life in Brooklyn, New York, where she owns a local diner. The most difficult part of her life up until this point is her separation from her husband and the occasional urge to drink. With her friend gone and the leads of his whereabouts going cold, Sandra takes it upon herself to find her missing friend. Through the tribulations and betrayals, Sandra is left to ponder who can you rely on when your most trusted ally is missing.

The sophistication of the production is built on the foundation of Felicia Curry’s performance. As the sole performer on stage, Curry embodies dozens of different characters. Curry’s range is immense, as seen in her playing an anxious middle-aged woman, to a suave Italian man, and even a forgetful 70-year-old gay man. Acting against herself, Curry manifests each character through her physicality and tone. Her performance is like watching a live recording of an audiobook. Each persona is as compelling as the last, all while performing from the comfort of her chair.

Curry is an actor, singer, and Emmy-nominated host of WETA Arts. She starred in the original Broadway cast of Into the Woods and received the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play for her performance as Celine in The Color Purple

The stage's complexity is seen in its visual simplicity.  Set Designer Marcelo Martinez Garcia creates Sandra’s world by containing it within the stage’s cubed format. Garcia’s stage choice and the projections by Andres Poch create an innovative atmosphere where the images on the cube change to match the location of Sandra’s quest. The setting projected on the wall seamlessly transitions from Sandra’s diner to the cafes and bars of Mexico.
